I served as a pastor in Hustisford Wisconsin for almost thirteen years. In January of 2015 I accepted a call to serve as a pastor at a church in Appleton Wisconsin about 75 miles away. I needed to sell my home, in Wisconsin, with snow on the ground, in a hurry. My wife and I interviewed a couple of real estate agents, but we were not excited about using them because they were not excited about selling our home. We both attended Financial Peace University at our church. I occasionally listened to Dave’s radio show and heard him talk about his ELPs. Dave pointed out that his ELPs matched his standards of excellence, drive and integrity. So I got on the Dave Ramsey web site, found the ELP section and Dave led me to Trish Schaefer, owner of American Realtors in Sun Prairie Wisconsin.

I sent out an email to Trish introducing myself and asking for an opportunity to interview her. She responded back to me within an hour. We set up a time to visit on the phone. After that phone call, I told my wife, "I just found our real estate agent.” Trish came over to our house, which was about an hour away from her office. From the moment she walked in, she was excited to see our home. She could see potential that we could not even see. We had never sold a home before. Trish taught us everything we needed to do to prepare our home for sale. She gave us our assignments and we went to work. It took us three weeks to declutter, repair, patch up and paint what needed to be painted. We followed her direction and guidance to the letter, because we needed to sell this home. She told us, "When your house no longer feels like your home, then you are ready to go on the market.” And that’s exactly how it felt.

There were some challenges for Trish. There were no comps in our area in the middle of February to help us figure out the right price. Trish recommended something I had never heard of before, a price range. She suggested a price range from $229,000 to $259,000. For us, $229 was way too low. But Trish insisted that this low price will generate some interest.

Our house officially went on the market on a Wednesday afternoon. ByWednesdayevening, we already had 2 showings scheduled for Thursdayand one forFriday. At4:00 p.m.the first people came through our house. About an hour later Trish texted us, letting us know that they planned to write an offer to purchase our home. At6:00 p.m.the second family looked at our home. This second family now knew that the first family was going to put an offer on our house. At7:25 p.m.Trish texted us, letting us know that the second family also intended to put an offer on our house. Wow, two offers in one day, is this normal? The first offer came in at $229,000, the second offer came in at $259,000. We accepted that higher offer just 24 hours after our home went on the market.

Amazing! Yes, we thank our gracious God and give him credit for sending us people who were interested in our home. We are grateful to Dave Ramsey for his ELP program and for sending us a true real estate rock star broker.

Trish Schaefer laid out for us a clear path to follow. We followed it and we can’t be happier. Her communication was awesome. We texted, we emailed and we talked on the phone sometimes multiple times each day. Because our home sale was contingent upon three other homes selling, Trish took charge of getting on top of each home’s position in line.
